The Housing Bill: A Silver Bullet?

Of course, there aren't many people who believe that the government has the best solution to our problems, even if the problem is as significant as our current housing situation. No, the government should never be the first choice, but at this point we may need all the help we can get.


However, I really don't believe that the recent Housing Stimulus Bill is going to be the silver bullet that so many are hoping for. There are some aspects of the bill that certainly take steps in the right direction, but in the end, it will only be one of several factors that will eventually help turn this market around.


Now, I'd like to comment on some of the bill's highlights:


Tax credits for first time home buyers


This may help bring more buyers into the market, even though the definition of a first-time buyer is a bit ...

 Well, it has been an interesting summer since July.  Our real estate market has been just really busy...lots of houses listed, lots of buyers viewing, and lots of houses sold.  But we will see a slower market this fall; our overall total sales in the Austin market are running at a 5-year low.  There are lots of houses available and generally it is a buyers market.  But it is an outstanding time to be in the market to buy or move up.  Mortgages are really tough, but we are making more than our share of real estate deals.  It has always been our philosophy to associate with quality people, and those relationships are a real blessing in this market.

 



 So, get out there and get those listings...educate your Sellers...and direct your Buyers to all that is available in the area!  The cream will rise to the top...
